Activities at Segera are based upon the 4Cs:  conservation, community and culture within the realm of commerce.

Conservation: Engage in a conservation project at an education centre, solar farm or agricultural plot. Whether you plant indigenous trees or spend your time tracking wildlife, your work will help the community.

Culture: Take an interpretive tour of the Zeitz Collection of contemporary art from Africa and the diaspora, which will lead you through the lush sculpture gardens and through the Centre for 4Cs.

Community: Admire beadwork from women of the Samburu, Turkana and Borana tribes, a trade that helps women to earn an income and preserve their culture. The collective group of these three tribes, named SATUBO, allows these women with complementary skills to create beautiful and symbolic handmade pieces. Visit the village where these women work and speak with them to gain insight into their culture and community.

Commerce: Beading, beekeeping and sustainable agriculture are just a few of the commercial ventures initiated by the Zeitz Foundation to help financially empower local communities. The goal is to create viable, sustainable businesses that work to conserve cultural identities and support the long-term wellbeing of families. If you are interested, the Segera staff will share more insights and escort you to various projects

C4C: The Centre for the 4Cs (C4C) was designed as an interactive experience where visitors can learn about the community development programmes by Segera, such as agricultural conservation projects to rainwater harvesting. You can also view a “visual safari,” the perfect precursor to an actual safari, to learn about Africa’s endangered species and their natural habitats.
