Since opening in 1995, Surya Lanka has been famed for its comprehensive, classical panchakarma cure, legendary care and generous hospitality.
Located directly on the beach, the resort is surrounded by a large tropical garden and has a very peaceful atmosphere which is essential for a successful Ayurveda Cure and a perfect place to relax in between treatments.
Their Panchakarma programme was designed using the input of two of India’s prominent Ayurveda physicians - Professor Asok and Doctor Athul Thombare - 21 years ago and has remained true to its principles in the years since. Their staff are highly experienced with most having been at the resort for over 10 years. Surya is also a relatively small resort which allows for a more personal atmosphere where guests are able to experience a highly individualised cure.
At Surya, guests are offered 10 lessons of yoga per week – 5 days morning and evening, which always ends with meditation. As well as yoga, guests can also enjoy various other complimentary activities during their stay including cooking demonstrations and weekly excursions to local sights of historical and cultural importance.
Surya generally recommends a minimum of 13 cure days in order for all treatments to be administered fully and effectively. If possible, heil cure guests should allow for a longer stay.
38 rooms are spread across five buildings. The most in-demand rooms are those in the New Wing (recently constructed and more therefore more modern) and the Beach Rooms (which were recently renovated). There rooms do not feature telephones, televisions or air conditioning.
Surya Lanka administers a more comprehensive and intensive Panchakarma programme compared to other resorts. Their Panchakarma programme was designed using the input of two of India’s prominent Ayurveda physicians - Professor Asok and Doctor Athul Thombare - 21 years ago and has remained true to its principles in the years since. Surya is a relatively small resort which allows for a more personal atmosphere where guests are able to experience a highly individualised cure.
At Surya Lanka they consider the diet to be an important feature of the detoxification process and as such foods which aid the cleansing process are emphasised (such as fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs and mild spices) and those which hinder the process are minimised (such as processed and refined foods, dairy products and highly spiced foods).
Each guest’s diet is monitored by the Doctors as well as the Restaurant/Kitchen staff in order to ensure that every guest adheres to foods according to the stage of the cure and/or specific medical conditions that they may have. Food is served buffet style and consits of resh fruit juices, delicate soups and an array of Sri Lankan rice and curries using a wide selection of mildly spiced / herbed vegetables and pulses. Non-vegetarian dishes are available on request and after consultation with a doctor.
