Dr. Hietkamp - Gräflicher Park Health & Balance ResortWellness Expert
Born in South Africa in 1954 and later raised in Switzerland, Dr. Hietkamp has been an expert in FX Mayr medicine, healthy eating and balanced eating habits at Gräflicher Park Health & Balance Resort for the last 20 years.
He recently sat down with us to discuss why he chose to get involved with FX Mayr medicine, why Gräflicher Park is the perfect place to do a Mayr cure and what benefits you can expect from doing a Mayr cure.
1. Can you please tell us a little about yourself, where you trained and why you chose the wellness path?
Having grown up in a vegetarian family, I had to deal with the different nature of my diet at a very early age and was thus forced, so to speak, to deal with the subject of nutrition even before I decided to study medicine.
Another factor was that my family were friends with a Mayr Doctor who had known Dr. Mayr personally. Many thoughts which he expressed were comical for me as a young student, some even amusing, since the intestine always stood in the centre of his reasoning. As I later learned from Dr. Mayr, nutrition = food x digestion. All we eat depends on our digestion; the best food we eat may burden the digestive system if eaten too fast, too late and in too great a quantity. We all overestimate the capacity of our digestive system. More and more research points out the enormous benefits of a plant-based diet and its connection with (gut-)health. I learned that the way we eat is the way we chose to age.
What Dr. Mayr derived from observation is continuously confirmed in basic research. It is incredibly satisfying for me to practice a form of medicine that is based on holistic principles and confirmed by modern research.
2. What separates Gräflicher Park's Mayr cure from your competitors?
Dr. Mayr would have been happy to work in Bad Driburg. Here he would have had wells with waters with healing properties like in Karlsbad, where he worked. The water can be drunk but it is also used for baths which support the cleansing process on the basis of the drainage of lymphatic and venous vessels. All the famous baths of yesteryear have been lost sight of after the pharmacological age broke with the discovery of penicillin; but this period has had its peak and more and more people are rediscovering the timeless principles upon which health is built. At Bad Driburg we are proud to have a history that reaches back over 200 years during which is served as a bath and healing centre.
3. What are the benefits of doing a Mayr cure?
The Mayr-cure is holistic in the sense that the person as a whole enters this experience: physical, emotional and cognitive. The experience that dietary restriction is not related to suffering opens a new window on our inner “weight and measuring system”. While in the rat race the motto is faster, better and more, the cure tells another story and sets free from unconscious group dynamics, it creates a sense of inner strength, a healthy self-confidence. The cure creates a distance from every day cares and worries and allows a more balanced assessment. Generally there is an increase of sensitivity on all levels that is used to deepen the positive imprints received during the cure. Various physical reactions can be mentioned all of which tend to slow the biological clock.
4. Who will benefit most from doing a Mayr cure at Gräflicher Park?
All those who would like to tackle disorders of health with individually tailored applications. A F.X. Mayr-cure makes optimal use of the body's own regenerative powers.
The diet increases the effect of neurotransmitters in the brain, which are responsible for well-being and the feeling of satiety. This is why a Mayr-cure is never accompanied by feelings of hunger. These neurotransmitters are responsible for an intensive relaxation of the entire autonomic nervous system. This relaxation is the basis for regeneration and recovery.
The Mayr cure is particularly suitable for the prevention of health disorders. The cure is also perfect for chronic stress and premature ageing, which often manifest themselves as psychosomatic imbalances such as lack of concentration, irritability, sensitivity to the weather, sleep disorders, headaches and loss of vitality. In short: The sick are helped and the fit have their health optimised.
5. Top tip for someone wishing to undertake a Mayr cure at Gräflicher Park?
An additional feature that is offered at the Medical Spa at Gräflicher Park is peat. This plant-based substance has unique warmth transport qualities. Applied as a hot bath the warmth is transmitted slowly to the body and therefore a very pleasant experience. Especially disturbances of the musculoskeletal system as well as the abdominal organs benefit from this warmth treatment. Its effect may be felt as long as half a year.
6. When is the best time to do a Mayr cure?
Biologically springtime and autumn are times “changing times” and the cures done during these phases usually have a longer “afterglow”. But there are also other divides of time, like the new year or a birthday or after a stressful phase. Also, the park is a spectacle during springtime (tulips!) and autumn (golden colours of the forest) which carries with it a special emotional touch.
7. How long would you recommend staying for to get the best results?
The shortest stay that still makes sense from a medical point of view is 10 days; the initial phase of the cure is over and – if the everyday surrounding allows – the second phase of the cure can be done from home. The ideal timing would be 21 days in a cure setting. When the dietary restriction is slowly lifted the Mayr-motto “less is more” should live on.
8. Do you provide support after your guests stay?
Many of our guests do certain check-ups for which they return and we stay in contact telephonically in order to discuss lab-results as well as the further procedure.
