Cuisine

Ayurveda uses food as medicine, following the belief that a person’s diet can cure many ills. Using fresh herbs picked from the retreat’s gardens, all meals are prepared in a special ayurvedic kitchen with authentic brass, iron and clay pots used for cooking. The menu is strictly vegetarian, no alcohol is served and meals are eaten communally.

Activities

Daily yoga sessions are offered alongside lessons in Kalaripayattu, a traditional Keralan martial art.

Facilities

With a 14-28 day programme you'll have all the facilities you need. The spa is the prime hot spot, and after the minimum of two weeks, rest assure you won't be bothered about your phone.

Location

Housed in a restored 19th century palace in the foothills of the Annamalai Hills, rooms are split between the Old Guest Wing and the Palace Wing. Beautifully furnished with antiques and four-poster beds, the rooms in the Old Guest Wing have an elegant colonial feel.

The nearest International Airport is Cochin, 105km, or about 2 ½ hours drive away. Coimbatore Airport is 75km away and Palghat is the nearest railway station (on the Mumbai-Trivandrum route), a mere hours drive.

Insider's Tips
  • The 14-day Manasanthy (anti-stress) programme uses a combination of ayurveda and yoga to banish stress and leave you in a blissed-out state. Treatments such as Uzhichil and Sirodhara are used alongside yoga, herbal medicines and teas for treatment. Beneficial for people who suffer stress, insomnia, tension headaches and fatigue, it’s also recommended for those who work a lot on computers.
